Sunnyside Cemetery
Sunnyside Cemetery in Bellefonte, Centre County PA is still an active cemetery, although new burials are rare. Land for this cemetery and the Forge Church which no longer stands, were originally given for the workers at the iron works in the valley below. About 1960, Cerro was given the church property in exchange for fencing the cemetery. Jacki (Leslie) has been the unofficial caretaker since around 1978. Near the S.E. corner several graves and stones were apparently removed sometime around 1985-87. Mr. Shultz does not know where they were taken or what graves were removed.....
The earliest burials in the cemetery date from 1894, when there were 6. Up to and including 1900, there were 8 more burials. The most recent was in 1990. There appears to be a lot of space for additional burials, especially on the west side of the cemetery where there is room for at least one more full row of plots. There are several family plots framed out but several are not full or have missing stones possibly.
