Madame Sherri's Castle Ruins
On September 26th, I visited Madame Sherri's Forest and Madame Sherri's Castle Ruins. Madame Antoinette Sherri a Paris-born theatrical costume designer who worked in New York City during the early 1900's. She and her husband built a French inspired chateau, summer house in Chesterfield that included extensive stone work, including a roman arch stairway, ornate interior and designed landscaped gardens. Sherri became famous for her lavish parties in the 1920's. In time her fortunes declined and her castle fell to ruin and vandalism.The house eventually burned to the ground in 1963.
